A new type of healthy drink is introduced to the market every day. And people are enticed to try these drinks because of their possible positive impact on the body. However, Dr. Kami Hoss reminds everyone to be careful with what they consume because it can have a negative effect on oral health. This article lists some healthy drinks that can cause significant damage to the teeth.

Lemon water
It is no secret that drinking a tall glass of water mixed with freshly squeezed lemon is good for hydration and can boost the immune system. However, lemon juice and other citrus drinks have high acidity levels that can erode the tooth enamel. When enamel erosion causes the exposure of dentin, leading to a higher risk of tooth sensitivity, cavities, and other tooth damage.
In order to limit the possible damage, it is best to drink lemon water through a straw and rinse the mouth with regular water after consuming it. Additionally, do not brush your teeth after drinking lemon water to give the teeth time to recover.
Kombucha
This fermented tea has recently gained popularity among health buffs because of its purported health benefits. But like lemon juice, kombucha is highly acidic and can lead to the wearing away of enamel and loss of minerals, notes Dr. Kami Hoss.

Energy drinks

Active people, especially those into sports, love drinking sports or energy drinks to keep themselves hydrated. Unfortunately, these drinks, which manufacturers sometimes advertise as healthy for the body, also have high acid levels. Moreover, some of these drinks have caffeine, which can also cause enamel erosion and plaque buildup. There are other substitutes for energy drinks, like green smoothies. Drinking plenty of water, especially after a good sweat session, is a better alternative than most energy drinks available.
