Dr. Kami Hoss Discusses the Development of Cavities
Dr. Kami Hoss Talks About Cavities and How They Form
As a seasoned dentist, Dr. Kami Hoss, head of San Diego's The Super Dentists, has seen every possible issue that has plagued people, and by far, the most common he encounters is cavities. Today, he explains how this problem occurs, which you can avoid with some dental habits.
Anyone can testify that a dental cavity can be such an unsightly thing to have, and if the condition worsens, it can also be quite painful. That said, for the unfortunate nuisance, having a dental cavity is a highly preventable condition. To do so, you must understand that poor dental habits usually cause this.
A cavity always begins with a buildup of food particles that remains untouched over time, notes Dr. Kami Hoss. These food particles tend to be converted into acid when they linger. It is especially true of residual sugar. Bacteria in the mouth also help this process through their natural chemical production, resulting in harmful byproducts that remain inside your mouth for prolonged periods.

Did you know that the enamel on your teeth, the hard outer layer, is made mostly of calcium? It's true! But while calcium is great for keeping bones and teeth strong, it's no match for acids like those in sugary drinks and junk food.
When these acids react with the calcium in your enamel, they start chipping away, creating tiny pockets that can quickly grow into cavities. And let's face it; nobody wants a cavity. So, the next time you reach for that soda or a candy bar, remember that your teeth are counting on you to make the right choice.
There is, however, good news. Cavities can be avoided by staying away from sweets or anything that has sugar. However, you can prevent dental cavities without taking away the joy of eating sweets. All you must do is brush and floss regularly.
Dr. Kami Hoss adds that if you do so religiously, brushing can ensure a cavity-free set of teeth, even for the rest of your life.
